TSL got swept away at Zetter Townhouse – a great hotel bar in St Johns Square, Clerkenwell. The only way to really describe it is a beautiful fusion of a bar on Diagon Ally from Harry Potter and someone’s living room in Alice in Wonderland. When you walk in, you forget which century you’re in. You forget about your job with all its stresses. You’ll catch little details such as the stuffed cat in a dress in the corner and immerse yourself in the relaxed and quirky yet sophisticated atmosphere.

The bar is table service only and they only book half the tables in advance. Their creativity is passed through to their food and cocktails with ingredients like dandelion tincture and lemon balm. Try the Flintock; gin, gunpowder tea tincture, sugar, dandelion & burdock bitters, and Fernet Branca. Oh and it’s garnished with real gunpowder!

You can also get a bite to eat and with the food by renowned chef Bruno Loubet, trust us it’s not your average bar food! The options range from small nibbles to burgers and supper bowls (like Beef daube Bourguignon £8.50) to enjoy by the open fire. Our favorite? The deep fried anchovy stuffed olives. With all this sophistication it’s amazing that prices are extremely reasonable. All house cocktails are £8.50, nibbles range from £3 to £4.50, and mains start at £7.50. It’s a perfect place to have a peculiar but sophisticated evening without the high prices.
